Electricity Concepts and Circuits

electricity

The theme of this module is the properties of simple electric circuits. To build an understanding, the basic electrical concepts are required: charge, current, energy, voltage, resistance and power. The activities exploit the use of ICT to stimulate thinking about how these concepts are used to understand the behaviour of electrical components and circuits. There are three types of activities:

  • Data logging - Four laboratory experiments for investigating the relationship between voltage and current in simple circuits.
  • Simulation - Visual aids to assist understanding of the concepts of current and voltage and the interpretation of the data-logging experiments with simple circuits.
  • Modelling - Models to show the relationship between voltage and current for a bulb, to calculate the combined resistance of three resistors in parallel and to predict the voltage supplied to a circuit as the load resistance is varied.
