University College of Teacher Education of Christian Churches in Austria Vienna/Krems

The Kirchliche Padagogische Hochschule Wien/Krems - KPH (University College of Teacher Education of Christian churches in Austria Vienna/Krems) is a private institution funded by Christian Churches. Founded in 2007 the KPH provides initial and in-service training for teachers in the Primary, Secondary and Special Needs sectors and for teachers of Religious Education. Initial teacher training for approximately 1600 trainees is offered on two camuses in Vienna and on a third campus in Krems, Lower Austria. In-service training is located at the campuses in Vienna and Krems and at a newly founded In-service Centre in the City of Vienna. International co-operations and projects build upon the tradition of the KPH's predecessor institutions.

The KPH provides teacher education based on Christian values and on the four pillars of learning as published in the UNESCO Report for Education in the 21st Century, namely

  • learning to gain knowledge
  • learning to act upon the knowledge gained
  • learning interpersonal skills and life-long learning.

The study programmes comprise courses in educational science, educational psychology and sociology, methodology and religious education, subject studies relevant for the respective teaching qualification and practical school experience. After completion of the requirements students are awarded the degree Bachelor of Education (B Ed).
